Ogun Area 1 Customs Intercepts 58 Trailer Load of Rice

Operatives of the Ogun 1 Area command of the Nigeria customs service on Thursday revealed it intercepted 34,580 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg; an equivalent of 58 trailer loads in 6months, following performances in areas of revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and trade facilitation.

Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Peter Kolo made this known at a media briefing on the half-year, 2021 scorecard of the command held at the Idiroko office, Ogun state.

The controller added that several seizures which include 1,100 cartons of frozen poultry products, 1,514 wraps of cannabis sativa, 140 units of used vehicles, 2,224 kegs of 25 litres of PMS amongst others were made.

He noted that a cumulative duty paid value of the seizures amounted to eight hundred and thirty-four million, seven hundred and sixty-five thousand, two hundred and seventy-three naira and zero Kobo. (N834, 765,273)

Speaking further, the controller reiterated the command's resolve to go after smugglers irrespective of whatever means or mode they tend to plan their smuggling strategies.

He added that the continuous attack on customs operatives in the state will not deter officers and men of the command from sustaining the onslaught on their smuggling activities.
