Makinde Gets Second Term Ticket

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has emerged as the flag-bearer of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP for the gubernatorial election coming up in 2023. 

Makinde was declared the winner by the Chief Returning Officer of Oyo state PDP Electoral Committee, Senator Ben Obi, who was represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Maibasira having polled 1040 out of 1048 accredited delegates. The atmosphere at the Lekan Salami Stadium, the venue of the primary was charged as security was beefed up within and outside the stadium.

One of the Aspirants, Former Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Hazim Gbolarumi in his remark before the exercise faulted the process for the election adding that majority of his delegates were chased away from the venue of the election. He thereafter left the venue of the elections with all his aides to express his displeasure with the whole arrangement.

The election was later conducted and supervised by Abdullahi Maibasira and his team. The exercise was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Mutiu Agboke.

At the end of the exercise, the former Deputy Governor Polled 2 votes while the incumbent Governor, Seyi Makinde, polled 1,040 votes with six foid votes. The total number of delegates accredited stood at 1,048.

In his acceptance speech, Makinde expressed gratitude to the party leaders, members, and delegates across the 33 local government areas while he promised to remain committed to their course at all times.
